Emma Hayes post-match press conference | USA Women 3-0 South Korea Women
Sixteen-year-old Lily Yohannes scored in her national team debut and the United States defeated South Korea 3-0 in an exhibition on Tuesday night.
Crystal Dunn and Sophia Smith also scored for the U.S., playing its second game under coach Emma Hayes.
“It’s a dream come true, really,” said Yohannes, who came in as a second-half substitute. “I mean, I played this scenario out in my head like how many times before this game? Just having the idea of coming on and scoring.”
Hayes was named coach last November but remained in Europe to finish the season with Chelsea. She replaced Vlatko Andonovski, who stepped down after the U.S. was knocked out of the Women’s World Cup last summer in the round of...

Not being offensive but it's amusing to read that Americans realised Emma is interesting. People who watch the WSL know her as tough, intelligent with great insights. She takes care and protects her players too. She's a good commentator as well. Now you know why Chelsea fans were crying when she decided to leave. It's the right time to get her as manager because the US was used to winning against the semi professionals. With many countries having full time players, Emma is the right coach to get them back to winning ways and spank the egos in the US team.

To say Chelsea fans were crying over the loss of Emma Hayes is a little over the top! In fact many wanted a change of coach owing to Hayes inability to dominate in Europe!! ……There are certainly no tears to be found amongst Chelsea supporters with Sonia Bompastor’s appointment as head coach! Chelsea will be the team to beat in Europe this coming season….Go Chelsea Go!!!

Emma is such a realist. I think she and her team can be trusted to choose the right squad. They have the skill and the insight. We as the public SEE the piercing runs and goals but not knowing the game plan and expectations, we sometimes miss what a coach is looking at especially in terms of a game plan...plus we don't see what they see during training. If Alex isn't in the 18, I think she'd be a good alternate so her presence is felt. I still have my fingers crossed for Andi Sullivan.

Time will tell… So far they have beaten an average opponent at best and their play is not different than before Emma’s arrival. I don’t like the ball movement, forward momentum, energy and aggressiveness we have enjoyed as US fans thus far. I will remain the BIGGEST supporter of the team, but not ready to say they will return to world champions again. Let’s make it happen Emma.

After a one week camp?! This week was mostly about getting girls on the pitch and seeing who should be in the 18. It’s going to take time to develop her system. I saw lots of good things and lots of things that need work. As long as the girls respond to Emma we will be back on top. We have way too much talent to not be. Thinking about some of the names that will be left out is stunning. Alex Morgan, Alyssa Thompson, Lynn Williams, Krueger, Dahlkemper, etc. could be left out. Some big names will be cut for sure.

Lily Yohannes is truely amazing. Her vision on the field and way she smoothly plays even when tackling is so deceptive. Once she becomes physically stronger..look out. Right now she probably should be a starter...but also bringing her out slowly makes sense as well. Looks like this team will be difficult to beat...esp. when the subs were put on the pitch. I just hope the US, having picked a winning manager, gives her chance to be as good as they can see she can be.

Psssst, Emma... Any chance when you play the Lionesses, you could have a VERY rare bad day?????? (she won't, she's a winner)

The only chances the lionesses will get to play the USWNT is in a pointless friendly…It’s been done, and wasn’t the most exciting of games.

@@DerekLangdonI miss when England, Germany, and France used to compete in the US's SheBelieves Cup every year. Obviously each country has branched off into their own tournaments now, but it was exciting seeing all 4 nations in my city.

I always hang on to every word Emma has to say. She’s one of the best female coach ever! but also the best speaker when it comes to honest press conferences. Fascinating to listen too. ❤️

@@jariemonah Yeah, I liked the early days of the She believes cup. It was exciting to watch. As you say time marches on.

@@loumargetts8644 I really don’t understand what you all see in Emma Hayes? She really wasn’t that good a coach at Chelsea, despite having some of the best players in Europe. It’s all hype really, and the USWNT has fallen for it.

The USWNT were dominating inferior amateur/semi pro teams in the past! Them days are gone bud! But I expect you’ll continue to beat up on second rate teams like South Korea for the foreseeable future… So well done!!

People acting like the loss is mainly down to the players being exhausted shows their Lioness bias. I’m not saying it doesn’t play a factor but all the other teams deal with over scheduling too. France got to the final of the Nation’s league against Spain and the Lyon players in the team have just had a Champions league. Bottom line is that we just weren’t on it last week. Hope we can turn it around and see better tactical changes.
